Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a skip?

Generally, the larger the skip you require, the more you’ll have to pay. You’ll also pay more depending on how long you want to hire the skip. At J Dickinson & Sons, we can save you money by covering the cost of delivery for your skip.

Bear in mind, though, if you don’t have enough room on your premises for a skip and need to park it on the road, you will require a permit from your local council. We can arrange this for you when you book your skip

Permit prices vary depending on your local council. If you’re unsure if you need a permit and want to find out how much it’ll cost, please don’t hesitate in asking us when you call to book your skip.

What can you put in a skip?

Here’s a break down of the types of waste we accept and do not accept in our skips:

We accept:

  • Cardboard
  • Plastic
  • Wood
  • Paper
  • Glass
  • Bricks
  • Concrete
  • Clay

We do not accept:

  • Batteries
  • Asbestos
  • Medical waste
  • Electrical appliances & equipment
  • Gas canisters and gas bottles
  • Hazardous & toxic materials
  • Liquids
  • Petrol, diesel
  • Paint cans

If you’re still unsure, don’t hesitate to give us a call on 01204 696 446 and we’d be happy to give you more details.

What size skip do I need?

This depends on the job you need a skip for in the first place.

For example, if you need to hire a skip for a small household job, a 3 cubic yard skip will be ample.

But for a large, heavy-duty building project, an 8 cubic yard bucket skip would be more fit for purpose. In short, it all depends on the job.

Lastly, it’s important to make sure you have enough waste to put in your skip before you hire it. Otherwise, you risk paying over the odds for a skip you don’t really need.

How long will it take to deliver my skip?

Here at J Dickinson & Sons, we aim to arrange a next-day delivery service upon request. Simply speak to a member of our team to confirm a delivery date and time that best suits you.

Is hiring a skip good for the environment?

Absolutely. And as part of our ambition to achieve zero landfill, we aim to recycle 100% of the waste we sort. So, by hiring a skip from us you’re doing your bit to help the environment too.
